Status:

Active

Role:

System Architectural Design, Audio Power Stage and Analog Signal Processing design. Component level design and development of each sub-system.

Description:

This project required a complete redesign of an in-process product which was not making performance and scheduling targets. Architecturally, the majority of connectors and cables were removed and replaced with board-to-board connectors, resulting in a much cleaner, more cost effective and streamlined design. EMC compliance was built in from the ground up and a new and innovative power amplifier stage was designed.

Innovations:

The key innovation was the use of Gallium Nitride switching FETs and Silicon Carbide catch diodes to replace what would otherwise be a 6 element half bridge topology. Operation at the voltages required for 70V and 100V operation coincident with the current capability required for 2Ω operation required a completely new architecture for the amplifier output stage.
