Project Lead Engineer. Responsible for magnetics design, system architecture, layout and coordination with mechanical, Product Engineering (PD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to assure product meets performance, cost and scheduling targets.

Description:

This project entailed converting an existing CX4 amplifier into a 25V/70V/100V distributed amp by designing and incorporating a multi-tap audio output transformer into the existing platform. While the original platform had a good deal of room, it was not originally designed with adding a transformer in mind. As such, the available space was limited and coupling effects needed to be mitigated.

Innovations:

While I would stop short of calling it innovative, to minimize coupling of the transformer to the adjacent audio circuitry, the transformer design was critical. It ultimately required a toroidal design to address both form factor and field containment and required specialized materials and construction techniques to meet the performance goals specified for the product.
